It’s time for an update on my continuing story since my last update was a YouTube video I filmed in November 2014 for our YouTube channel.
2 years ago I started my journey changing my whole way of life. I was 330lbs, diabetic, had sleep apnoea and headed for an early grave. I had enough and I decided to turn my life around and in a big way.
It all started with small steps. I started walking every day; not a lot, just as much as I could muster. I cut out carbs, sugars, and anything artificial. I stuck to it. I would cook meals for the week on the weekend so I was never stuck having to buy lunch. I would even bring food with me to parties etc as I knew most places weren’t friendly to my new way of eating. After a while it just became habit.
2 years later I am down to 212lbs after losing a whopping 118lbs. I am truly a different person. I am no longer considered diabetic, I no longer need a machine to help me breath when I sleep, heck….I even quit smoking to boot.
The lessons I learned along the way I can easily relate to people struggling with debts. It is easy to get yourself into a downward spiral with no end in sight from your credit card bills. They honest truth is that there is always a way. Planning is a major key to success.
Start by figuring out how much money you have going out vs coming in so you know exactly where your money goes.
I had gone to a client’s house a while back as they couldn’t get a handle on where they were coming up short. I went over their budget and they should have had $350 in cash flow after everything was said and done. I asked to see their 30 day banking statement and sure enough, after all the daily withdrawals for impulse items, birthday gifts etc, all non essential items added to the missing $350.
They were floored.
Knowing where your money goes every month is essential. After showing them this little trick, they were able to get on track and I am happy to say they have been debt free for over a year now.
G.I. Joe said it the best when he proclaimed that “knowing is half the battle” and I believe that is true in many life’s situations.
I am almost at my goal but I will not go back to my old habits again.
My CEO Richard Cooper once told me that if you do anything for 3 weeks strait, it becomes habit. I think this runs true with money as well as weight loss. Manage your money for a few weeks carefully and you will be amazed on how many needless things you are not spending your money on and keeping your money in your pocket.
