This is an interesting question as the word debtor rarely ever comes up in any conversation.
You will hear this term more often than not, in collection agencies, when you are speaking to bill collectors.
This is one way they can belittle you and make you feel like bad about your money situation, and basically not get in trouble for it.
Using the word debtor when a bill collector is speaking to you also causes a reaction, which the bill collector can then use against you or at the very least, get you to start talking to them.
The truth is, MOST of us are debtors.
The word Debtor means “a person who is in debt or under financial obligation to another.” If you are not a debtor, then this would mean you don’t owe anyone a dime. I can tell you from my personal experience and with the friends I hang around with, most of them either have a mortgage payment, a car payment, and some have credit card debt as well.
Don’t let the word debtor get you upset if this is used in a conversation.
I hope this helps. Check out my vid for more on what a debtor is.
