For a lot of us, summer means Blockbuster movie season – and I’m not talking about the blue and white video rental chain. I’m talking about explosions, big action and bigger screens.
Back in your day going to a movie might have only cost a nickel, grandpa – but now costs are rising. And if you’re looking to close out some debt, hitting the theatres might not be the cost-effective activity.
So if you want to get out there and catch Thor, X-Men or Transformers, don’t fret. There are legal ways of cutting your movie-going costs – no sneaking in and no illegal downloads, you rebel.
Here are our best ways to save while catching summer flicks:
Plan Ahead
I was at the grocery store the other day and saw something awesome: a 2-for-1 movie deal for a chain of cinemas I like. That meant I could take the wife out for a movie date for the cost of $15, instead of the usual $30+. The deal included popcorn, a drink and two movie tickets.
All I had to do was plan ahead and grab the voucher and my costs were sliced in two.
BYOS
Bring your own snacks. Call me crazy, but sometimes I want to snack on something other than popcorn and candy during a summer movie. One of my favorite snacks in the summer is a bag of grapes. They’re easy to put in a bag, and I’ve never been searched on my way into a theater. Healthy and cheaper – that’s a win/win.
Pick the Cheap Night
Not every theatre still has discounted Tuesday nights or weekend matinees, but it’s worth a look to check. Spend a few minutes checking online for the best prices in town before you pick a theatre. Why not cut your costs?
