Whether you’ve had some credit card debt in the past, or are new to the credit card game a pre-paid card can be a great way to enhance your credit card skills, or stop dangerous spending. With most of the great benefits of a credit card, and a definite spending cap, financial success could be as simple as using these pre-paid options.
Keep reading for a good base of information on pre-paid credit cards and how they can help you out.
Why Should I Use it?
Basically, with a pre-paid credit card there is ZERO chance it will put you into debt. As long as you are purchasing the credit with money from an actual account (not leveraging another borrowing avenue) it is a risk-lowered way to get into the world of credit. People that are recovering credit card debtors know that pre-paid cards steer them away from previous bad habits and ensure that they only spend money that they have – there’s no way to go over your limit or leave a huge balance to pay off.
What Can I Use it For?
Use a pre-paid credit card like you would with any other credit card. Pay securely online, use it to pay for meals or gas. Essentially, to anyone else, it’s just a credit card. But you will be armed with the extra financial caps and security we described earlier.
Where Can I Get One?
We’ll leave that one mostly up to you. Some banks offered pre-paid versions of their cards, others can be purchased online – even in malls and department stores. You should always read the fine print on these cards to make sure you know exactly the fees associated with spending, advances and regular use.
Try out one of these pre-paid cards if you’re curious about getting into the world of credit, but have any reservations.

I would like to apply for this so I can pay off some companies I have purchased from.
I have a Bank of Montreal pre-paid. Its very usual for using for online payments/purchasing. I have an account as well at the BMO, and so I can just easily slide money from my chequing account over to the BMO prepaid when I find I need to pay for something by credit card. Its instant when u do the transfer. I typically use it only for online purchases/payments.
