Well, the kids are now officially back in school and you are officially back to work full time. I don’t know about you but after a nice vacation I find it very difficult to get myself out of bed (let alone getting kids out of bed) to put my nose back to the grindstone.
It’s a tough week for all involved. Everyone is over tired, over stimulated and dreading the morning hours.
I find the easiest way to focus on “why” I am back to work (don’t we all want to whine “I don’t wanna…” the night before?) is to give myself some reasons why I do (and love) what I do.
You, just like your kids, will find excitement with seeing your co-workers/friends again and can’t wait to share stories and adventures with them. Telling the same story to different faces makes it that much more fun and relives all the excitement all over again.
Focus on the money! If you came out of your last vacation debt free (Go you!) then you can day dream about all the saving and budgeting you are going to do for your next vacation. And just picture your bank account growing and knowing that that ski/snowboard trip to Mt. Tremblant will actually be a reality this Christmas. You just spent so much time and energy to have the best summer ever – now imagine how amazing your Winter vacation is going to be!
On the flip side, if you came out of the summer with your bank accounts flashing red – then being back to work is a blessing. Getting yourself back on a financial routine is just as important as a sleeping/living routine. Steady income = ability to pay back debt. Try to allocate a percentage of each pay check to paying off those credit cards (I recommend going through online banking and having an automatic withdrawal every pay period. You don’t even recognize it’s gone!) You can read past Blog posts on how to tackle your bills or your credit cards. Maybe after going through your finances post-summer break you may come to realize that you need some help! There is no shame in asking for help – go to www.totaldebtfreedom.ca and speak to one of our awesome Debt Consultants to help you get your debt load under control again!
Always remember the importance of your vacation through it all. A time to relax, unwind and spend time with loved ones. There is always room for some time off – just know that reality is right around the corner.
