In Ontario, our Family Day is approaching on Monday, February 20 and we finally have some snow!! The main purpose of this holiday in February was for several reasons. After New Year’s Day we didn’t have a Statutory Holiday until April for Good Friday and with so many people having the “Winter Blues” (this blogger included) the Ontario Government decided to give us a day off in February (and I am OK with that!)
But – what if you are on a budget? What can you do on a day off from work when so many other places are closed the same day? Here are 5 Budget friendly things to do this Monday:
1.) Be totally lazy. Don’t do anything! Lounge around the house, take some naps, watch some movies and take a day to not even leave your house (this will help with gas prices if you aren’t using your car!)
2.) Get together with a friend or family member that you haven’t seen in a while. Meet at one persons house or go out for a coffee to catch up. It will be nice and relaxing and probably good for a laugh! (gas and a coffee won’t break the budget too much)
3.) Go tobogganing. Either at a local hill with your own sleds or go to a mountain and go snow tubing!
4.) Go for a family Nature Hike in a Wintery forest! Try to find some animal footprints and research who/what it belongs to!
5.) Catch up on some reading. I don’t know about you – but sometimes I get caught up in all the prime time TV and forget my old faithful book on my nightstand. Take a couple hours, curl up with the fireplace on and exercise your mind!
The most important thing to remember about this Family Day is that you should really focus on actually spending some quality time with your family!!! Don’t take anything for granted and make some time for them. If this is not possible, then focus on rejuvenating yourself for a day! Enjoy it!
